Getting the Best Deal on Your Games

Video games are a fun pastime that can ultimately end up becoming rather expensive if you allow them to. When you have go buy your consoles, your peripherals, and naturally your games, you can end up dropping quite a pretty penny on them all. The thing is, you do not necessarily have to end up spending a fortune on your game systems. There are some ways you can save a bundle on them, and end up having more money for the games themselves (or food and rent, and other unimportant things like that).

For one thing, you can save some money on game consoles by purchasing them online. There are some unbelievable discounts at a lot of sites, whether it involves cruising around the forums for a good local deal you can pick up in person or just sniping the best deals on one of the auction websites. The only bad part about the whole deal is having to wait for your system to arrive—a store is faster, but sometimes it just can’t compete on price.

There are times, however, there are some occasions when going to store and getting the system of your dreams right now might even be the cheapest option you can take up. For instance, there are often some great sales that give you a pretty solid discount on the system itself. Or you can always trade in your existing game system for a new one that interests you more. Your options in person tend to only be limited by your ability to do your research and find the very best of the deals. They may be hiding, but they’re out there.

Modern Video Gaming – Interactive and Engaging

Over the past three decades, specifically with the induction of console gaming into the everyday household, video games have been given a bad rap by parents and guardians alike. Whether the complaints revolve around the fact that kids tend to spend more time playing them then they do studying for school or going out and being active, to the violence of some video games acting as a bad influence and plating the seeds of destruction within their minds; video games have gradually gained a negative stereotype. However, over the past give years, video games have begun to evolve and take on a great deal many faces with different goals in mind by the manufacturers.

Among some of the more noteable types of video games are games created solely as educational tools. Obviously, children, particularly younger children have issues in getting into their school work due to the learning process not being as fun or stimulating. Video game manufacturers have taken this into account and thus began creating video game consoles, singular games and droves of other digital and video products that pertain to the learning process while simultaneously presenting an engaging and innovative activity.

The concept of educational prowess and positivity coming out of playing a video game has never been so evident since the release of the Nintendo Wii. The Wii not only has a great deal of engaging video games and educational concepts, but it also promotes physical activityt that past video game consoles did not. This has set a new light into the eyes of parents who grew up playing older consoles providing a reasonable purpose for purchasing a video game console for their children.

As technology becomes more advanced and efficient, video gaming will continue to evolve and take on attributes that are the most widely demanded by consumers. It will be interesting to see how things look in the next ten years.

The Importance of Hardware in Gaming

Much like a gear-head and owner of a muscle car might enjoy bragging about the specifications of his prized possession to a fellow gear-head, an avid user of computers and gaming might relay the specs of his machine to a fellow gamer; as the better the hardware, the better video games will run and increase the experience of playing on all levels. Video games have made extremely large advancements over the past 25 years, moving from the ever popular Atari and original Nintendo systems 8 bit interface to the seemingly endless graphical possibilities enjoyed by gamers in the modern gaming world; a direct result of the hardware employed.

While in fact platform gaming systems still hold a large margin of popularity with the induction of efficient networking capabilities through the Xbox and Playstation systems, computers are still the growing preference for many. The main reason for this fact is due to the performance differences in the hardware capabilities between platforms and personal computers. Software developers understand this, and at times have to make a decision to develop a game for the PC over releasing it for platforms solely to push the graphical and performance achievements to the limits for boasting fans.

From video cards to memory, modern computers vastly blow away their 20 year old, 10 year old and even 5 year old predecessors. Much of the hardware employed by computers now adays provide developers virtually limitless possibilities for the visual appeal of their games. As such, the video game industry is continuing to grow and improve, pulling in new denominations on an annual basis. Additionally, with increased graphics and ability to be more interactive, much like with the technology Nintendo employs via the Wii, video games are no longer the “enemy” to parents, but a new and innovative way to learn and even get exercise.

The way of Competition

It is truly a beautiful thing when a pair of companies square off against one another, with the prize being the hard earned dollars of the buying public. It is truly the height and the greatness of capitalism when, even though a group of people is under absolutely no pressure to buy because of law or need, they still do so in throngs because they are so enamored with the products or services offered up. There are so many cases of this, with the American “duopoly” system being what it is. But of course, the examples which we provide herein are only a small sampling of what it really out there, waiting for the people who love a little bit of competition in their lives.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band both have fake, easily played musical instruments which are meant to be used as game controllers. In both of these games, you play as the band, and you get a chance to suspend your disbelief just long enough to feel as if you really are a band up on stage, playing for a throng of screaming fans who came out just to see you. While you are obviously just playing a video game, the feeling of being a star is very powerful. And the fact that these companies compete to have the best experience makes both of them just that much better.

Kinetic gaming has become a way of life for a whole lot of people. Instead of just sitting there flapping your thumbs, you have the capacity to make your body do the things that make a game work properly in the game (which is what a lot of people have always done anyway). With the Wiimote and the Kinect as the guiding forces, locked in fierce competition against one another, you can do more and more with your body. If they did not compete against one another, the games wouldn’t be this great.

The Competition of Rock Band and Guitar Hero

When two companies compete, it seems like the public is who really wins. While there will never really be perfection to be found in any product which gets released outside of heaven, a lot of times the fact that two warring companies will push the envelope further than anybody can initially believe really makes you wonder if those 19th century philosophers might have had the wrong idea about capitalism. After all, once you restrain the more cruel tendencies of the capitalists, they can make some incredibly sweet hardware when they put their best minds to the task. And in a lot of cases, that is exactly what the companies end up doing for the gaming public- putting forth the very best that is humanly possible.

A perfect example of what can happen when two companies are really competing against one another is that beautiful duopoly of Rock Band and Guitar Hero. While at first they may seem to be pretty much identical to one another, on any kind of a closer examination you can easily see that these two products, between the songs they offer, how customizable they are and the peripherals which come with them both, are both designed to be just a little bit better than “the other guy” is. After all, it would be a truly rare gamer who has the money (and even the space) to possess both games, so they both need to bring their A game to earn your patronage.

And earn it they most certainly do. While both games deal with “rocking out” in a video game sense (the controls are simpler than actually playing the songs), the difficulty can get pretty high up there. And as if that were not enough, you can even upload your own songs. And this does not even take into account that you can now move beyond just the guitars, to sing and to play the drums. This competition stuff is great.

Morrowind: ten Years of Awesome

If you have never played The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (preferably for the PC), than you are seriously missing out on something great. Yes, it did come out back in 2001, which was a decade ago. But there is more than just the most modern novelty to be had in a great game, after all. Go back and play the original Super Mario Brothers, if you want to understand that the newest games and the best games are not necessarily one and the same. Not only can you use exploits to create spells which can hit an entire town like an atomic bomb. Not only can you literally spend real life months tracking down and doing a lot of the quests (it might not even be possible to get them all, no matter how many characters you use).

Morrowind is the kind of game that just does not come out all that often. The quest lines, the variety of monsters and the beautiful, exotic architecture of the in game world all give it an ambiance that you just do not find with most games. And when you add in the fact that you can actually add in your own custom content (through a utility provided by the game’s maker, the venerable Bethesda Softworks), the game takes on a special quality which may never be repeated.

From the moment you first step off of the boat in the little ‘back end of nowhere’ town of Sedya Neen to the time when you have destroyed an evil god and claimed your rightful status as the reincarnation of an ancient king (and really, even beyond that point), you will feel like you really have stepped into an ancient, mostly uncivilized world where your skills will be tested to their utmost level at every turn. If you have what it takes and want a great experience, find a used copy of Morrowind on the cheap, and kick it old school.

How to Get Nintendo Games to Work

If you have an older Nintendo Entertainment System or NES, you have been currently having problems or have had problems with the console accepting cartridges.  Some of the problems associated with the system include, alternating blue and black screens, a blinking power button, corruption within the game (usually visible on the title screen) or a solid green or white screen. An important consideration is that despite cleaning the Zero Insertion Force socket may be damaged and require more than a simple cleaning to make the console work normal again. Damage occurs naturally from bending pins, from repeated cartridge insertions and corrosions over time.

One of the first things most people will tell you to do is to blow on the cartridge. This is actually a bad idea. Although it may not seem like it small amounts of saliva and moisture from your mouth will get transferred to the pin edge of the cartridge and then to socket inside the console. After the moisture gets inside corrosion will occur and will make games harder and harder to load. So if you cannot blow on your games, how should you get them to work? One solution is with the official NES cleaning kit, it is made by Nintendo and designed to clean your games and your console.

If a cleaning kit cannot be found, you may choose to clean the cartridge with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol. The alcohol is wet, but will clean and not cause corrosion like water. You may notice that the cotton swab will become black, this is normal as it is removing dirt and grime. If this process still fails you might need to send your NES in for a replacement socket. There are various companies on the internet that will perform these repairs, for a reasonable fee.
